Well welcome back. To say that we are glad that it is 2007 would be an understatement. My first race report since the disastrous fire at Western Sydney International Dragway on the 2nd September last year and special thanks to anyone who has helped in the rehabilitation, not only of myself but also of the truck, trailer and race car.
As I say this on Thursday 4th January, after some big nights in the shed we have finally got the Real Deal Motor Sports Insurance Lexus Hot Rod back together again. Lionel was able to get the short block back to us with the crank fixed and the number 1 main bearing replaced, probably the first main bearing damage we have ever had in the many years of using the 6 bolt main Lexus block and standard Lexus crank.
Unfortunately as well as the fire in Sydney we tore the guts out of the flex plate,, damaged the converter and gearbox, put the motor on the rev limitator, broke a couple of cam caps, flogged the end of the crank and we believe the harmonics lead to destruction in number one main. We have had some big nights in the shed since Saturday and with the help of Darren White, Lachlan Tree, Steve McIntosh, Wayne Hargreaves and Anthony Milne and of course the invaluable help of my neighbour and dedicated mod bike racer - Alan Croft who spent most of the new year working on the heads repairing the damage to the cams and cam tunnels.
Hopefully tonight we will go home and start it up, put it in the trailer and head off to Maryborough (half way to Willowbank) where the best brother & sister in law Neil & Kay Bruggemann in the world lives - our usual half way stop. He will cook us a great breakfast and we will head off to the track and we will see what happens.
It will be good to be back at the best place in the world - Willowbank Raceway amongst my best friends - some of the best friends in the world, at the race track where we race all year round.
We wish everyone a prosperous 2007, safe driving to and from the track, no red lights, fast times and quick ET's.
Regards
PETER A PEIRANO.
