ROCKET ALLSTARS RACING SERIES DECIDES TEN ANDRA AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS – 14/06/2006

Drivers and riders from five Australian states shared the ten Rocket Allstars Racing Series Australian Championship crowns last weekend at Willowbank Raceway. The 2006 Castrol Edge Winternationals event was the sixth and final round of the inaugural Rocket Allstars Racing Series.

The Rocket Allstars Racing Series is the annual, national points based series for competitors in the ANDRA Championship categories in Groups Two, Three and Four. This season the series opened in Sydney in September 2005, moving to Brisbane in November and Sydney again in February 2006. Early March took the fourth round to Perth before the series went north to Mackay in Queensland in April. Drivers and riders may contest all rounds, but only the two best results may be carried into the final in Brisbane on the traditional Queens Birthday date.

Support from race teams has been outstanding. The 2006 Castrol Edge Winternationals attracted more than 600 entries, including 24 from Western Australia. Over 450 drivers and riders scored points during the 2005/2006 Rocket Allstars Racing Series with the $35,000 championship bonus pool distributed among 30 teams.

With the event win, Sydney driver Charlie Micali tied with early leader, Queensland’s Russell Mackay, who went out in the eighth finals. Because he had the better performance at the event, Micali took the first Australian Championship in RARS Supercharged Outlaws. Rockhampton’s Nathan Peirano ended in a tie with Darwin driver Bronte Henning, taking the win by contesting the final round.

20 June 2006 Following the running of the Castrol Edge 2006 Winternationals the ATDC comes to a close for another year with Nathan Peirano and the "Lexus Piranha Real deal Motorsports Insurance Scheme Toyota Genuine parts Hot-Rod" finishing a close up fourth in the points. The Winternationals was all but washed out when rain stopped qualifying for most of Saturday. Organisers were forced to make up the Group 1 elimination fields from the one run Friday night. This disappointed many of the racers but with 600+ competitors to be fairly dealt with it was inevitable qualifying would have to be restricted. The Willowbank Track staff did a great job to ensure racing could start early on Sunday morning and for the competitors to have a good track to run on for the finals.

Nathan Peirano and doesn’t this Lexus look amazing with its new “Jaws” paint job, Bradley Johnson alongside him in the Gemini, a hard leave and a bang from Johnson, the Lexus leaving hard, will he make it into the field, and it’s a no so far. Bradley Johnson has left his tail shaft sitting here on the start line.

Russel Pavey needs a slower pass this time to qualify for the bracket, he missed out last pass by four thousandths of a second, Nathan Peirano alongside him – it’s the battle of the burnout, both leave hard, but Pavey has managed to detune it and into the field, Peirano is now in 30th position, Pavey into the top 10 of the qualifying order.

Nathan Peirano tied in second place for points with Russel Mackay for the Championship, now if you haven’t seen the new paint job of Peirano’s get a hold of a photo where ever you can it is truly a scene stealer, Steve Swinscoe is in the lane beside him, the Funny Car sounding tough and true.

Peirano throws the championship away with a red light handing the first round win to Swinscoe.
