PEIRANO FAMILY “THE LEXUS PIRANHA - PENGUIN F.E.D.”
The F.E.D. was built in 2001 by Bobby Hansen for Rich Howell. Rich ran the F.E.D. for 2 years in Nostalgia Top Fuel and probably only ran it in no more than 10 races. It was then bought by another NTF team in 2004 and they also only ran it a couple of times. Karl Scheele took possession of the vehicle in 2005 and ran it in Nostalgia A/F probably six times in 2005, then in 2006 he fitted new hubs and bearings and raced with carbon fibre brakes and rotors in NTF seven times. The rear end is a Mark Williams aluminium 3rd member with 3:90 gears, the gears were lightened by MW. The rear end houses a chrome plated sheet metal fabricated Ford 9” with 40 spline full floater axles, the steering wheel is a MW with an SFI MW quick release.
The dragster has never been crashed, but has had some welding done at the race in Seattle, consisting of 4 uprights put behind the fuel tank resulting from the bouncing in the trailer. Karl used a chassis stabilizer and after he had spoken to Frank Parks, one of the best chassis guys in the business. Karl found out that it is better to use 4”x4” under the chassis right in front of the motor plate and then secured the headers to the trailer floor. The chassis has a current NHRA certification for NTF which is more stringent than the NHRA 7.50 and slower certification with the roll bar having the new lateral head restraint pads fitted being a requirement this year.
